Charles J. “Charlie” Hein, (86), of Fort Recovery, Ohio and Bradenton, Florida passed away on April 22, 2014. Born August 3, 1927 in Avon, Ohio, He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Catherine (nee Reichert), his parents, Lotus Mae (nee Roberts) and Xavier Hein, and his brother, Gerald. He is survived by siblings, Mildred Tangeman, of Coldwater, and Shirley Larger, of Fort Loramie. He was father of Barb (Tim) Armstrong of Richmond, IN, Chuck (Angelika) Hein of Fort Recovery, Jon (Rose) Hein of Greenville, Ohio, Mary Beth McLaughlin of Loveland, Ohio, Margo (Doug) Johnson and Dan (Amy) Hein both of Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, he leaves 8 granddaughters, 6 grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter, and a special friend, Nancy Knapke, Fort Recovery, to cherish his memory. Charlie served the United States as a member of the 348th Army Band and was owner of Hein Insurance Agency. He served as Grand Knight of the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus, an officer in the American Legion, President of the Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce, member of the Ambassadors of Fort Recovery, he was also a trustee for Wright State University, a member of the Mercer County Health Board, and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. A man most devoted to his family, he was also an active advocate for numerous civic and cultural endeavors, a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, and Mary, Queen of Martyrs Church, Bradenton, Florida and was also a friend to many. Friends and family may call at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 8:30-10:15a.m. Mass will be held at 10:30a.m. at the church with Fr. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will be held later at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Fort Recovery Community Foundation, PO Box 52, Fort Recovery, Ohio for the purpose of scholarship and community bequests.
