Ernest L. Muhlenkamp, 77, Portland, Indiana, died May 22, 2013 at his daughter's residence in Portland, IN.
He was born November 13, 1935, in Jay County, IN, to the late Linus Muhlenkamp and the late Esther (Kreig) Muhlenkamp. On November 22, 1956, he married Janet (Bruggeman) Muhlenkamp, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons - Michael (Pat) Muhlenkamp of Portland, IN, Keith Muhlenkamp of Portland, IN, Randy (Ronda) Muhlenkamp of Florence, SC, and Jerome (Leslie) Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery, OH; 4 daughters - Karen (John) Shields of Hartford City, IN, Nancy (Dan) Link of Portland, IN, Jill (David) Hemmelgarn of Portland, IN, and Mary (Marty) Jutte of Portland, IN; four sisters - Lou Ann Knoth of Coldwater, OH, Juanita Buening of St. Henry, OH, Elaine (Tom) Carlisle of Dayton, ON, and Kathleen (Tom) Coon of Little Rock, Arkansas; three brothers - Ivan (Sue) Muhlenkamp of St. Joe, Michigan, Lavaughn (Doris) Muhlenkamp of Portland, IN, and Ben Muhlenkamp of St. Louis, Missouri; 40 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law - Elmer Kuess of Celina, OH; and a sister-in-law - Delores Muhlenkamp of Portland, IN.
Deceased are a great grandchild, a brother, Alvin Muhlenkamp, a sister, Irma Kuess, and two brothers-in-law, Cletus Knoth, and Paul Buening.
He attended Coldwater High School, Coldwater, Ohio, owned and operated a van transport service and retired from farming.
He was a former Jay County Commissioner, NFO Director and member of the Board of Directors of 1st National Bank, Portland, IN. He also was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Ohio and its Men's Society.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Ohio, Fr. Richard Walling officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Anthony, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Friday and 9:00 am-9:45 am Saturday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
