James A. Champ, 75, Fort Recovery, Ohio, died December 24, 2012 , at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, Ohio. He was born October 6, 1937, in Ansonia, OH, to the late Onie S. Champ and the late Nellie (Mullenix) Champ. Surviving are former wife, Peg Long, Fort Recovery; son - Zachary (Amber) Champ of Fort Recovery; 3 brothers - George Champ of Woodington, OH, Leroy Champ of Union City, IN, Bill Champ of Union City, OH; 2 sisters - Betty (Richard) Hardwick of Union City, IN, Mary (Carl) Stephan of Bluffton, IN; half sister - Bessie Davis of Winchester, IN. Deceased are son, Jeffrey Hardin; brother, Donald Champ; half sister, Mae Vanote; and half brother, Jim Slick. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and attended the Police Academy. He retired as Chief of Police of Fort Recovery after serving 25 years. He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Union City, IN, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Fort Recovery, and Fraternal Order of Police, Grand Lake Lodge. Services are 10:30 am Friday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Pastor Steve Long officiating. Burial is at Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery. Calling is 4:00 pm-8:00 pm Thursday and 9:30 am till services Friday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion. Contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County.
