Leo Joseph Hart

December 21, 1932 — March 10, 2023

Leo Joseph Hart, 90, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Gardens at St. Henry.


He was born on December 21, 1932, in Fort Recovery, to the late Thomas and Dora (Rammel) Hart.


Leo is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Gigandet) Hart, whom he married on May 4, 1957; his children, Steven (Jill) Hart of Fort Recovery, Susan Hemmelgarn of Tipp City, and Patrick (Elizabeth) Hart of Minster; his 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jean Hart of St. Henry; and his in-laws, Elsie Shappie, of Versailles, Edith Speck of Fort Recovery, Mary Gigandet of Versailles, Margaret Guillozet of Troy, Rita and Ronnie Mayo of Greenville, Jane Kunk of Portland, and Janet and Skip Hickey of Kettering.


In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Hart; and his siblings, Linus and Emma Hart, George and Anna Marie Hart, Mary & Clarence Quinter, Margaret "Peg" & Andy Hemmelgarn, John Hart, Al & Donna Hart, and Ann & Joseph Berning; and his in-law, Bernard Shappie, Earl and Norma Jean Gigandet, Richard "Bobo" Speck, Ray Guillozet, and Donald Kunk.


Leo was a graduate of Fort Recovery High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country honorably. Leo was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a member of the St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fort Recovery American Legion, and the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus. In his free time, Leo enjoyed walleye fishing on Lake Erie and playing baseball, especially with his brother, Al.


A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.


Guests may visit with Leo's family on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Prayer services conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion and the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus will begin at 6:45 PM on Tuesday.
