Terry D. Smith, age 78, of Fort Recovery, died February 23, 2020 at his residence.
He was born March 19, 1941 in Union City, IN, to the late Donald and Wavelene (Reigle) Smith. On June 6, 1965, he married Thama (Stoner) Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Pamella (Justin) Stump of Fort Recovery, Vikki Smith-Kifus and fiancé Andy Nichols of Perry, OH and Kelli (Kerry) Allen of Ossian, IN; grandchildren, Kalib, Kady, Riley, Kamden, Kolton, MaKena, Juliana, A.J., Mylee, Kiera and Kyler; great-granddaughters, Paizley and Remi; a sister, Becky (Tom) Everhart of Palestine, OH; and a in-law, Erie Elson of Fort Recovery, OH.
He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Nilah (Ron) Helton, Betty Elson and Hubert "Butch" Arnett.
Terry was a 1959 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, attended Ohio State University, Columbus, and served in the Army National Guard.
He was employed at CTS in Berne, IN and later worked and retired for Fort Recovery Industries, Fort Recovery.
Terry was very active in his hometown of Fort Recovery. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was instrumental in founding The Fort Recovery Park Board, which he also served as president for many years. He was an active member of the Fort Recovery Friends of the Arts, the Friends of the Library and the Historical Society, all of Fort Recovery. He was also a member of the Fort Recovery American Legion Post 345. Terry served on the town council for over 20 years and his hard work and dedication was noticed in 2004 from the Chamber of Commerce when he was inducted into the Fort Recovery Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, Fort Recovery. He also served on the church board for many years and was the president of the Truth Seekers Class at the church. Although he was active in the town, he always managed to find time for his family. He would make sure he attended all of their special events to support them and will be truly missed.
Services are 10:30 am Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Fort Recovery Church of the Nazarene, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Dennis Kelley, officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00-4:00 p.m and 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Brockman- Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery and 9:30 am-10:30 am Thursday at the church.
