Vera R. Alig, 84, Portland, Indiana, died on April 7, 2016, at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Indiana.
She was born July 26, 1931, in St. Anthony, OH, to the late Edmund and Rosella (Uleman) Muhlenkamp. On February 9, 1952, she married the late Donald "Don" Alig, who died December 5, 2015.
Surviving are three daughters, Lorraine (Dan) Howey of Bonita Springs, FL, Karen (Dave) Bailey of Portland, IN and Mary Ann (Nick) Schwieterman of Saint Henry, OH; three sons, Roger Alig of Muncie, IN, Gary (Annette) Alig of Fort Wayne, IN and William (Katie) Alig of Celina, OH; ten siblings, Don (Dorothy) Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery, OH, Thelma (Dave) Barga of North Star, OH, Ruth Hardin of Sarasota, FL, Kenneth Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery, OH, Marge Paulus of Celina, OH, Mary (Carl) Obringer of Fort Recovery, OH, Virginia (Pat) McClurg of Versailles, OH, David (Marcia) Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery, OH, Connie Andrus of Columbus, OH and Judy (Jerry) Schulze of Celina, OH; 13 grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren; and five in-laws, Dorothy Hein of Montezuma, OH, Richard "Dick" (Jeanette) Alig of Coldwater, OH, Rosemary Heitkamp of Coldwater, OH, Marceil Alig of Portland, IN and Evelyn Alig of Portland, IN; .
Also preceding her in death are her sister, Doris Schafer; an infant sister, Alice Muhlenkamp; her brothers-in-law, Jerry Schafer, Jack Hardin, Jim Paulus and Tom Andrus; and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Muhlenkamp.
Vera was a 1949 graduate of Coldwater HIgh School. She worked as a hostess for over twenty-five years at Richard's Restaurant, Portland, IN and then at Bearcreek Farms, Bryant, IN. She enjoyed the customers and the people who worked there. Vera liked to dance, especially the polka. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.
Vera was a life long member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony, OH, where she was baptized and married as were all her children. She was also a member of the church's Altar Sodality.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Walling officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Calling is 2:00-6:00 pm Sunday and 9:00-9:45 am Monday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
