Wilbert H. Gerlach, age 96, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away on June 25, 2020 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater. He was born May 29, 1924, in New Weston, OH, to the late George and Elizabeth (Behrens) Gerlach. On September 1, 1945, he married Ruth (Meiring) Gerlach, who passed away February 24, 2011.
Surviving are his children, Kathleen & Don Hart of Dayton, OH, Ken & Dianne Gerlach of Naperville, IL, Jim & Anne Gerlach of Sedalia, CO, Gary Gerlach of Columbus, OH, Julie & Steve Bruns of Conover, OH, and Tom & Diane Gerlach of Derby, KS; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and in-laws, Esther Hoffpauir of Louisiana and Daniel Meiring of Centerville, OH.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild; siblings, Joe Gerlach, Jake & Helen Gerlach, Tony & Margaret Gerlach, Mary & Wilfred Uhlenhake, Augusta & Cletus Reichert, and Bernie & Ray Hawkey; in-laws, Fr. Arnold Meiring, Verena & Tom Humenny, Lillian & Bernard Wahrer, William & Peg Meiring, Fr. Bernard Meiring, Joseph Meiring, and John Hoffpauir & Pat Meiring.
Wilbert retired from Hull Brothers, Fort Recovery, as a mechanic and continued to work as owner/operator of Gerlach Welding supplies until he fully retired after he reached 80 years old.
He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery. He was also a member of the Fort Recovery Gun Club. His talent and love for the sport of trap shooting lead him to win the Grand American Trap Shoot in Vandalia in 1990.
A private mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, with Fr. Ned Brown as celebrant. A live stream of the mass will be available at www.fortrecoverycatholics.org/streamspot/. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
